The moment I stepped into the work force almost ten years ago at the age of 16, it became almost immediately clear to me that corporate interests did not take my well-being seriously. My first job was at a local movie theater. The job itself was honestly not bad at all, and offered perks like free movies and popcorn for me and any friends I brought, which was invaluable for a high school student. I worked there for almost the entire school year, but ended up quitting when the managers kept us late to do a “deep clean” until 3am on a school night because they had caught wind that an inspection was taking place the following day. I remember my mom being really understanding of my decision to quit, as she had been calling me periodically the night of that shift asking if they had let me clock out…
Month: July 2023
Been at my new job for 7 weeks now and am working on going back to my old job. Problem is the process is taking so slow. I most likely won't be going back there until the end of the month. My new job is awful. A lot of racism, bullying, homophobia, etc and nothing is being done about it. They're training me to more responsibilities this week and I really don't want to do them but i have to in order to keep up appearances. They're investing more training in me and I'm about to nope the fuck outta there. And I feel guilty for some reason even though I have every reason not to.
i see a lot of posts here and others places that's say “oh how can someone live like this?” “my boss is obviously stealing me” , generally are Americans or others first world country, and they make like 50k a year, and I really don't know what I am doing wrong or what can I do, I work as a fullstack developer in Uruguay (Latin America) , one of the top 30 (something like that) expenses country in the world , in a company that pays me just 6k a year( minimum wage) , I asked for a raise this week and they said no, (fun fact, the company is worth 1 million dollars), I know I am not a bad at my work, but I can't find any job because my university (no others jobs have a flexible time), if only I could make the minimun wage in country's…
UPS is tricking people into being scabs.
I work at UPS, and as a unionized work place, it's pretty great. However, as UPS has raked in record profits, they have been unwilling to make any concessions for the people who do 90% of the actual work for them, Part Time Package Handlers, in the latest contract negotiations. One thing you should know is that once you've been hired at UPS as a Package Handler, you aren't immediately a part of the Union. There is a roughly 3 month period where you have to be trained and UPS has leeway to fire you if you aren't up to their standards. Once you make it through that period, you are then a part of the Union with all the protections of union representation. Herein lies the problem. The UPS Teamsters are most likely going on strike when the current contract ends on August 1st. UPS has been hiring very…

Thankful for Unemployment
I want to first acknowledge that I'm in the extremely privileged position of being single, childless, able-bodied (with a history of mental illness), and having a financially supportive family (phone bill and occasionally health expenses). I was laid of in mid February due to “budget changes” in the company. In hindsight, it's probably because I was the least cooperative+punitive person on managememt. They literally chose a barely-functioning alcoholic who'd started a fight over me. ANYWAY, I was given 11 weeks severance and a referral to a third party recruiting firm (which I never heard from). While still doing my state's required job searching activities, I've: Volunteered at a local animal welfare organization Reorganized my living space and gotten to home improvement projects I'd put off for a dog's age Dyed my hair the fun colors I've dreamed of for years Gone to group fitness classes or events I would never…
My SO works in a salon and does spray tans. A woman was asking to be sprayed far more was needed. My SO voiced her concerns, but eventually gave in to the person. Afterwards, my SO informed her manager of what happened.Later that day the woman she spray-tanned called and complained to the manager she was over-sprayed. My SO was verbally reprimanded and told she would not be receiving her commission for that session. We live in Washington State and I have not read her commission contract yet, but it smells fishy.I am not asking for legal advice per se, but general guidance, suggestions and thoughts. EDIT: Grammar and conventions
I think this would be a reason for HR to stop being a completely useless feature of a company and force companies to high quickly rather than be picky and hold off positions forever, as well as, keep them from wasting the time of the applicants. I cannot tell you how many weeks worth of pay I could have made off of applying to a company and putting literally everything that is on my resume into their stupid system. Why not make a standard system that I could make as a word doc that just instantly scans into all these fields without me, the applicant, having to write a bot for me to do that? OR!!! Just pay me to take your 45 min long personality test and for the 30 mins it took me to put my resume into a system that is just going to reject me anyways.…
I work in a client based job that is heavily dictated by our internal scheduling. If a client/our scheduling staff say a job is supposed to begin at a certain time, that’s when it starts. Not earlier, not later. This is a policy that has tightened in recent months, mostly due to aggressive policing of overtime. If time is not accounted for on the schedule, ownership is likely to bully you for “stealing”. I was previously nearly fired for a pay period that I clocked 26 total minutes of “unaccounted” time. As a result, most employees have minimized their time on site outside of their scheduled hours. Today I found myself a bit ahead of schedule, and decided to come into work a bit earlier than expected with no intention to clock in early. Grab a coffee, settle in, etc before clocking in for the day. I started receiving slack…
I mean like everybody in the country who actually works and makes minimum wage or less? Like right before Xmas.
