I can’t get over this interview experience I had

I was having a really bad experience with managing at a video game chain store so I decided to go after a bigger opportunity. I'm trying to get a print business together so I thought applying at the biggest print center in the county would be a great fit for me to gain experience. They interview me in the furniture section of the store in front of customers. that stunk. a private office would have been more professional and nicer. then they went on about how much responsibility it will be and talked about how they have the most accounts out of all the corporate stores in the area. totally cool. they then went on to keep saying how people keep quitting cuz it's a lot of work. but what got me is they wanted to pay me 17 an hour. 17 an hour to run the biggest print center…

7 years ago, I walked out of my job to try and become a comedian. It took a lot of work, but it paid off.

I’m not posting this for self-promotion, but to try and inspire someone that needs to hear it. From the time I finished high school, I’ve worked in warehouses. I got pretty good on a forklift and always had success, but I never liked going to work. I didn’t want to spend my life making someone else rich. I think this subreddit clicks with me because I’m not “lazy”, I’m happy to contribute to society and earn my way, I just want to do it on my own terms and “work to live, not live to work”. I took a job at a large shipping supply warehouse when I was 31 (I don’t know if I’m allowed to name them, but they’re a huge company in North America. Starts with a ‘U’ and you’ve probably received 300 of their catalogs this year). The pay was decent but the place was like…

There’s less openness on this subreddit than I expected on the discussion of reform on working hours

Was looking at a post talking about someone’s dream of reducing all workers hours. I know a lot of these discussion posts I see come from office workers whose work hours could probably be reduced without much other adjustments needed and no impact to productivity. A lot of the criticisms in these types of posts are from people in fields that do healthcare/care work, create a physical product (manufacturing, construction, etc.), are in retail where certain business hours are needed to be maintained, etc. Which is fair. I don’t think the goal of reducing people’s working hours across the board to improve quality of life will have a one size fits all solution. It would probably take buy in from a group of willing professionals from each field to rethink our company/organizations systems and division of work. I think it’s unfair to say that people in those fields have no…

Literal piss pouring into the cellar and we aren’t closing???

I work for the second biggest pub chain in Britain. The toilets are right above the cellar that stores all the beer, ale and cider barrels and piss started to leak from the ceiling into the cellar. We haven’t stopped serving pints or closed the kitchen (which is next door to the cellar). Regional managers told us “if it’s a back of house problem it doesn’t matter, you have to stay open”. Now, I’m no man with knowledge of the law but this has got to be highly illegal. I’m now working in a kitchen until 10pm (5 more hours) that stinks of piss. Manager also refuses to throw away contaminated barrels because it would cost the pub £20k. Capitalist negligence at its extreme

Holding wages for 6 months?

Okay so I need some input on this interview I had for a small practice. The lady told me they hold wages during the training period…meaning if I work an 8 hour shift…I get paid for 4 hours and will be reimbursed 6 months later but if I quit before the 6 months…they keep the wages. There’s a checklist I will be following and complete as you go…I have to do exactly what is on the checklist…for an example someone coming in for an immigration physical exam…so I would have to wait until someone comes in for that type of appointment which can be in a couple of weeks or 6 months lol. I will continue to be paid half my paycheck until I have completed this “checklist.” I live in the state of VA…are these mfs breaking some laws I am not aware of? I am not taking the…

I just quit so I won’t feel like offing myself anymore.

Take care of yourselves, guys. You matter most in your world. Be fulfilled. Today I'm riding the high of being free. And idk, might get plant-based high later, too.
