Stop applying your passion to others. Not everyone chose exactly what they wanted to do for the rest of their life. Their jobs aren't something that makes them happy. Their jobs are just for pay and no, they don't want to “grow” or “apply the right mindset”. Yea, yea. You're an owner, or you got your doctorate or masters. I don't give a shit. Surprise!!! You're not better than me no matter how shiny your Porsche or Mercedes are. You just got lucky, happened to know what you liked early on, or were pushed by your parents incidentally in the right direction. Good for you. Now let me enjoy my free time. Don't call after hours. No, I can't come in on my day off and no I definitely won't “study at home” or pick up the slack on my own time.

REVOLUTION NEEDS TO HAPPEN
I am over all the talking and discussing. REVOLUTION IN THE USA NEEDS TO HAPPEN IMMEDIATELY. We need to at least collectively mobilize. Supreme Court just killed student loan relief and it is obvious our government has failed us because they favor the rich few. I do not care if this mobilization starts as two people. We need to create an organization NOW and not later. If you are ready and fed up with all of this inequality DM me.
Finally left my corporate sales job.
Handed in my notice last week after I just couldn't take it anymore. It was a well paying job in an interesting field but my heart hasn't been in it for quite a while (it's recruitment). I have been doing CVs/Resumes on the side for a few years and so decided to make a proper website and I've had a few clients already booked in so I'm feeling a bit better and not so panicked about lack of funds. I'm also starting out my psychology degree in September to study something that I'm actually passionate about. It feels odd to be busy without all of the stress. Onwards and upwards!
No holiday pay
So for context I work in retail/sales (I earn a base pay of minimum wage & make 1% commission on my sales) I was hired with the title of “casual part time” I’ve been working here for only a short time now just a couple of months and I worked the last holiday thinking that we got holiday pay until today I found out that I do not get paid holiday pay since my title is technically casual part time. My thing is I’m scheduled to work tomorrow (July 4th) but I’ve never worked for a company where I didn’t get paid holiday pay and I’m really not that comfortable with it. I’m giving up precious time with my family to make money for this corporation and not even getting the holiday pay in return. My dilemma is I really want to just call in for tomorrow and be with…
Reply to rejection emails
I respond to rejection emails with “that’s wonderful news! Thank you!” Let them wrack their brains as to why the loss of a job opportunity with their company would elicit happiness in an applicant. If you do not see my worth, you are not worth my time.
Think of it: millions of workers just not showing up leaving the boomers who fed us the “get into college” kool aid have to see how many of us are actually effected by this.
It was brought up during a normal conversation. Let me preface by saying I really liked my boss 90% of the time, but they definitely had different values on loyalty and taking time for yourself. They preceeded to tell me since starting to work full time, they had never taken a single work day. Not just this job, any job. They were a sales associate, then an assistant manager, then became a store manager at a different chain store for years, when that chain closed they became a store manager then regional manager, and eventually ended up managing our store after leaving the previous company. So, since the mid 1980s. One time they were so sick they passed out at work so they had to take a half day but it wasn't a sick day. This was said almost like bragging. All I could think of was all the free…
A friend of mine has been trying to spread the word about the behavior of many topless bars in the US and how they don’t actually pay their servers. She doesn’t have Reddit and asked that I share it for her. Her post (with some punctuation and minor edits for clarity) is as follows: “…Okay I seriously, seriously want to know why hasn't someone filed a class action lawsuit against topless bars for requiring their contracted workers to commit to a schedule and pay exorbitant fees if they miss day or are late (they are also charged just for working but that's another issue entirely). I tried working as a House mom at lipstick…they did not pay me a wage, it was just for tips only. I was required to work a schedule, clean their toilets and showers, do their accounting, and buy supplies. That s*** did not work out…
Quit again
Went back to a job I used to have 2 years ago, different location but same job. Main reason for going back was to have something stress free or maybe less stress than some of the jobs I've had since. So it's only been 3 weeks and from week one I was asking for a demotion or transfer from the higher ups since I was a lower manager and super overworked and stressed. I've heard nothing but “stick with it” and other motivational poster quotes. (You'll be promoted after a while etc). I've tried telling 4 levels of management it's too much to run a whole retail store often alone aside from some cashiers who can't leave their registers. The other day I called in the day before and it was no big deal. Today I go back to work and get cornered by 3 higher up people attempting to…
Networking conferences = pay to play
All the panels and speeches are bullshit. People go to suck up to big shots and pass around laminated resumes for the price of $500. These conferences are sometimes run under the guise of identity (e.g. a Latino professional association) but make no mistake that this is an exclusive space. Fortunately I got a grant from my school so I was able to punch above my weight in qualifications. If you’re too poor or don’t have the benefit of a well-resourced institution then sucks for you I guess. The capitalistic milieu we live in has warped vocabulary to the extent that we’re not just calling this plain old corruption.
