It’s been a week since my job got eliminated/outsourced. As planned, I’m working for Company B as an independent contractor for this month while still working in Company A’s office. I’ve applied to 10 jobs so far, some on site, some remote and one that is hybrid. So far, nothing but crickets. Maybe a lot of people took this week off for July 4 (I think one place I applied to closes on Fridays during the summer). Company B hasn’t assured me I’ll get offered a permanent position. If they do I’ll take it since it’s better than unemployment, but I’ll still be looking elsewhere. Last month, Company A was closed for Juneteenth but Company B was open. I also discovered that MLK Day and the day after Thanksgiving which are Company A holidays are not Company B holidays. It’s unclear whether I would be able to work from home…
Month: July 2023
I’m not sure what to do about this, as it’s a pretty sticky situation. I left my better paying job to help a friend at a location they manage (I get it, I learned the hard way) it was a decent pay cut, but I was promised a raise within a month of working there. Not a smart move and it’s something I regret. But at the time I thought I could trust this person, so I left my job. A month goes by and the raise didn’t happen. “I’ll talk to them next month” Here’s the fun part. 2 months in, I get hurt on the job and have to go through the beautiful process of workman’s comp. Spent a few days where I couldn’t walk, and then a whole month and a half where I was working on heavy restrictions. My hours are cut in half and I’ve…
Not satire, from a labour hire company.
So many pressure, very little gross profit for owner. For today's day.
I’m sick of big companies trying to spy on employees. Some of the questions are just to find out who is slacking off. They want exact times and such. Even if I see someone not “extremely excited to be at work” ( yes, that’s a question) I say there are. Fuck then and thanks for the money and free food!
CCTV installation
My boss will install a CCTV to our work area including the small area for night shift. Am I being too sensitive if I am feeing uncomfortable with it? I sometimes pick my nose or burp/sing/talk to myself when no one is around on night shift. I will need to go to the bathroom for that from now on. Am I the only one who does stuff like this occasionally at work It is not up for discussion. He just announced he will and brought in a few boxes of CCTV.
Glad I looked at the fine print.
Been employed at my current job (I work for the city of Portland) for 8 months. We have a probationary period of 6 months which I made it through no problem. I was initially hired to work full time from 3pm-11pm. After a few months my employer asked me if I was interested in working day shift from 10am-6pm. I said I was willing to give it a try. I lasted about a month but couldn’t continue because I’m a night owl and honestly can’t sleep at night. I’ve tried really hard to get myself to sleep at night to no avail. Melatonin, weed, staying off my phone. Nothing works. I only seem to be able to sleep during the day. I communicated this with my employer and they moved me back to my 3pm-11pm shift. Now all of the sudden the majority of my schedule is 12am-8pm, “to fit…
