I guess I’m quiet quitting now

A few months back I posted that I moved jobs within the same company and initially it was better. But the honeymoon phase has worn off and the same problems of my old organization are creeping in, except this job requires 75% travel where my old job required none. On the times I don’t travel we are considered to be doing “admin” work but I’m never assigned anything and there’s no direction from my managers on what to do when I’m not out on trips. I have an interview with a different company today. Hoping that goes well cause I am already checked out of this job and tbh the company after almost 8 years there

A year ago my job rescinded by hybrid status

Exactly one year ago, I was called into my manager's office. I had been working hybrid (3 afternoons at home – barely hybrid) because my elderly dog was in end-stage heart and kidney failure. I was trying to take care of her the best I could and spend quality time with her while I could. My manager said, “It seems like she'll be around for a while, so we're going to need you to come back to the office full-time.” I was speechless. Five weeks later, I had a job offer from a company that was 100% remote – and when asked the question of why I was looking for another job in the interview, I said, “My current job won't let me work from home to be with my dying dog.” Never been so honest in an interview and never got an offer so quickly. I had six really…

Companies should be required to post aggregate employee wage data similar to how calories are posted at fast food restaurants

Throughout the 90s and 2000s a slew of regulations required fast food retailers to prominently display basic nutritional info for their products in their establishments. Some, though I’m not sure if the particulars, post this info right next to their menu items. I think most of us can agree this was a net positive for consumers. It made it easier for me to make informed choices related to my health. However, part of my decision to patronize any retailer (food or otherwise) depends upon how they treat their workers. I try as much as possible to patronize unionized retailers, or failing that, ones that least flagrantly exploit their workers. I suspect many people are like me. I do my research, as much as possible, but that takes time and effort. Sometimes, the information isn’t readily available. Retailers go to great lengths to hide this info from their own employees, never…

Stopped my boss in his tracks about OT

I’m an engineer, office guy. Before lockdown, 40 hours a week, with the very rare “emergency” where they’d request that I work OT. During lockdown, all the jobs dried up, so I opted to go to a construction site of ours for a year. They ended up keeping me for TWO, and the whole time was mostly 7/12s. I got to make money, but I was far from home (more than a thousand miles), and I ended my assignment burnt out. Office culture was different upon my return. Tighter schedules, much more pressure, and now, while not “required,” a lot of pressure for OT. We’re understaffed and under-scheduled, and there’s been a big push to get more office and less WFH days out of us. I am well and truly burned out. So are my colleagues, considering we’re going through a period of attrition, losing some amazing and brilliant engineers.…

My manager let me know that it is my responsibility to find a replacement if I call out sick, so I’m quitting.

I just don't roll with that. No “get better soon” or “I'm sorry to hear that”. It was just pure inconvenience and bitterness. It is my first week working here and I do not know every one of my co-workers or have their phone numbers. At jobs where I feel respected and have the resources, I would absolutely try to find some cover before reaching out to my boss. But that will never happen here because I am quitting and finding somewhere else that at least has upper management/HR (this is a small family run business that often uses the “we are a family so we put the team first!” excuse iykyk). Anyways, this is just kind of a rant but I am sick and tired of managers who try to get me to do their job when I am sick and cannot work. Nobody should ever have to put…

Feeling walked on

I've been with my job for a year, I'm the newest at my specific location but we have another one on the other side of town with newer people. I'm a barber and when I initially started there weren't enough stations so I had to schedule myself around other people to use their stations when they weren't there. We eventually added another station and I was given the open one. I wasn't told I'd have to share because we had the exact amount we needed but it wasn't explicitly said THIS IS YOURS. Fast forward a few months and a guy from our other location starts working at ours every other Sunday. He comes to me personally and asks me if he can use my station because “I'm too tall for the others” I said yes and would move every other Sunday for him even though I was working too.…

“We are short staffed so you can’t quit!” -Update- I quit and reported wage theft

I went in to work yesterday. I asked for a break and my boss said the only way I would get a break is if I stayed over an extra 30 minutes. She stressed that if I did this, there would be no coverage for the office and my workload would pile on. I took a photo of the timeclock with my cellphone which was the only way to prove my time was being cut daily. The timeclock clearly states I clocked in last Monday at 5:25am and clocked out at 14:30pm. The total hours worked are totaled up as 8. The clock deducted an hour when I never moved from my desk. I then went home and submitted a wage complaint with the DOL as many of you suggested. I hope something happens with this but I can't physically prove I never moved. I can however prove I never…

Father passed away , have already used my 10 days of Bereavement, but may get fired.

My father passed away and I have already used all my days of Bereavement, however due to logistical and financial constraints, the funeral won’t be happening until the week after. I am returning back to work, but if I leave for the days of the funeral I will be let go. that’s fucked up right ? I’ve already mentally checked of this job but I also need the money :/.

This project has gone to shit, Im not trained and I just don’t give a shit anymore

Started a job more or less 6 months ago, and while i've been paid well and had good conditions here, I've hated it from week 1. I hate the product i'm supporting. I dislike the way my team works and communicates. I've not been effectively trained, and my direct colleague/manager hoards work from me leaving me sticking out like a sore thumb. Now management has twigged that the product is way behind where it should be in terms of schedule and functionality and more and more work is being heaped on to me, but its too late. I'm just emotionally drained, and am waiting for the right time to hand in my notice. Most likley Monday. I'm in a financial bind tbh, but I have plans to make some money online, and after a month of me time to recover after a tough 2.5 years or so personally I have…
