So I work an office job as admin, I've been working here for the last 2 years. We get a 30min unpaid lunch that I usually never take and just work through/eat at my desk. Today however it was nice out and so I chose to take it outside. I start my break (this includes heating up my food etc) at 12:40 and planned to come back in at 1:10. My boss texts me 5min before I'm done “Hey, lunch is only 30min, come back to work.” I don't text back but as I'm making my way back inside, I see him outside literally looking for me. I tell him “I started my break at 12:40, when you texted it hadnt even been a full 30min” he says “oh well breaks don't function like that, they're only on the hour, so 12, or 12:30, 1 or 1:30.” I was just…
Month: July 2023
In the past few years a lot of companies have layoff thousands of employees and there's a surplus of employees looking for new jobs. I have spend more than 6 months and over 600 application for jobs and every time denied. There's also hundredths of job posted in places like linkedin and indeed. How long do yall think it will take to go back to normal? will it get better soon or will take years like the 2008 home crash?

Company for sale on “Dailydac”
Friday I found out the company I work for was listed on this website https://www.dailydac.com/ and is up for sale July 5th. Working right now and Slack is pretty silent. Our other office in another state has been furloughed according to another co-worker. How screwed am I? I've worked with other companies that were acquired but that was more of business men meeting behind closed doors. Seems pretty desperate to sell the company via public zoom auction right? – Our current CEO has said nothing to us so far today.
So on Wednesday of last week I threw out a few applications. Two of which went to Quest because supposedly they pay the best for biomedical lab workers in the city. I've been watching them for a while because they only ever have night positions open that otherwise I could fill easily. Well they finalypost a “we want or will actually train a cytotechnologist” position which according to the job description I could actually do as well as the for once available daytime med tech position. Get a call back from them. The guy has the fucking GULL to say I don't qualify for it, despite being familiar with requirements for the ASCP for what they're talking about, and meeting all but the “one year of work in a certified lab” requirement. Guy fucking insists that I don't meet the requirements. Well I know he's lying to my face now,…
Hey y'all, I'm advocating for the members of UAW 2865, the student workers at UC. We negotiated and ratified a new contract earlier this year after about a year of deadlocked negotiations and then a 6 week strike after the UC admin committed a myriad of unfair labor practices, mostly around bad faith negotiation bargaining. We were mildly happy about the contract, not all we asked for but some important improvements to quality of life working in the university system. Not just for pay, most of us are underpaid enough to be at around 50-70% rent burden, but also issues such as bullying and harassment, protections for international workers, better health care, better transportation options, etc….still lots to improve but a relatively victorious battle. (check some of my post for highlight pics from strike earlier in year, fairUCnow.org for more info) Now that it's been half a year…
It’s About Priorities
Things at my workplace are very tough at the moment. I work in a residential home for young adults with autism and have done for about a year and a half now. It's not the workload itself that is the problem but my many work colleagues. It's been a year and a half and I am soon going to be one of the longest serving staff members and it's just shocking. This mass exodus of staff could have been completely avoided but upper management ran the place so poorly that the place is spiralling downwards. I'll try my best to summarise the drama at work and how it's damaging the workplace. It starts around Christmas. Two men, C and L are very good friends and have been for years. Work keeps on contacting C asking him to work additional shifts. L informs him that by law you are allowed to…
