I was laid off from a company Friday they cut half the employees away. I was in a process engineering roll. I got a new job today with day one benefits and perks and vacation accumulating on day one. Everything about the new place benefit wise is better the 401k is 8% vs the 1% where I just came from the insurance is better the hours are better and the pay raise is 3.50 per hour. I'm now sitting here wondering why I didn't leave sooner.
I have a gap in my employment history from when my now ex gf was diagnosed with Stage 3 Cancer, for which I eventually stopped down from my job for to help take care of her full time because I was the primary person she could rely on as she didn't drive nor did she have any family in the area. So about two months ago our General Manager left. I’m the assistant manager and have not and will not be promoted as per the District manager. It’s a pretty shit situation but it pays the bills. I was told my position is fluctuating on a corporate level and I’d need to reapply. I asked if my position was secured or if I needed to worry about anything. I wanted to do something while university was out. So I decided to go to an American summer camp. I’m from the UK so I got a visa, a flight and paid all agency fees, and went to it. In total it cost me £1.5k The people at the camp were awful, I was bullied by the other staff. I felt so awful everyday. All I wanted to do was hide.
