Our boss asks for our latest CVs
This comes after a group meeting of all of our founders after many months (they all are located in different cities). Our boss texted us today to mail him our latest CVs within two days. We’re a small firm with less than ten employees. What could it possibly mean? What should I be knowing? Ps: I have been working here for more than a year.
Title says it all. I worked as an Apprentice Mold Maker for a glass container company. I averaged 70 hours a week through the pandemic, while also taking classes towards my Journeyman card. I had never been late, never called in sick, never been written up. In December 2021 I was diagnosed with a super rare form of Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma, called Cutaneous T Cell Lymphoma. The HR guy at my work allowed me to take Spring Semester of my classes off so I could go through treatment for my Cancer. Fast forward to Fall of 2022, the day before my classes were set to start again I was informed I was being fired for NOT KEEPING UP WITH MY CLASSES. (I was 3 hours short of where I should have been). My Union President and other reps did NOTHING. Wouldn't even file a grievance on my behalf. So I went…
My boss = epitome of capitalism
So because I signed 6 NDA’s, details will be vague. I’m posting for 2 reasons: to get it off my chest but also looking for opinions. I just started in May. Company is just me (admin) and my boss and his partner. The business model is something which is explicitly illegal in 47 states including ours. The main reason it’s illegal is bc if it wasn’t, it’d be very easy to take advantage of certain vulnerable groups financially (the elderly, those less fluent in english/financial hardships etc). Well my boss has a lawyer who has written special contracts exploiting a loophole in the law. They are not too confident with their loophole though bc they do everything to make sure the client doesn’t get their own lawyer and that no one else sees the contract. I know I have to find another job asap. I feel like a TERRIBLE person.…
This is kind of a long rant, so if it’s not allowed feel free to have this deleted. I honestly just don’t know where else to vent that would even understand. I’m two years shy of turning 30 and have a toddler with another on the way. We live with my fiancé in our first apartment and at this point we’re just struggling so badly that I feel like an utter failure. Where we live right now is very, very expensive and our rent recently went up as well as borough utilities. My fiancé makes on the upwards of 22-23 an hour, which I know should be considered a lot. I had a full time job up till March and was laid off after being refused my FMLA accommodations after having put my time in. We were honestly doing pretty okay, we were paying everything on time, and could actually…
Burner account here. So I work as a cashier/sales associate for a small retail toy shop. Though not written, it is general policy that we greet everyone who comes into the store with a 'hello', 'welcome', 'let me know if you need anything', etc. and I would say I achieve this 90-95% of the time. Of course, there are moments when we're busy, I'm taking care of another task such as inventory, or I just happen to miss someone who walks through the door. That's exactly what happened earlier this week — I was in the middle of putting out/organizing items we had just gotten in for the 4th of July, and also a coworker stopped by the store to give me an extra pair of keys… All that to say, I don't know exactly what I was doing in the moment, but my attention was diverted and therefore I…

Alternative Explanation
Had a manager whose favorite expression when referring to himself in management was, “Cream rises to the top.” He didn't appreciate my alternative explanation, “So does pond scum.” But, it kept him from talking about it again.
Fired for being in the hospital
Title goes as it is. I was in the hospital after a car accident for three days, notified my manager and she approved the days off. An hour before my shift yesterday I get a phone call saying my employment has been terminated immediately. I asked why, twice, and got a “no reason, we are just going to part ways”. I’ve worked for this company for three years. She didn’t even ask how I was doing after the accident. Needed to vent here, I am at a loss of words.
