Mixed signals-seeking advice

So about two months ago our General Manager left. I’m the assistant manager and have not and will not be promoted as per the District manager. It’s a pretty shit situation but it pays the bills. I was told my position is fluctuating on a corporate level and I’d need to reapply. I asked if my position was secured or if I needed to worry about anything. The DM insisted it was a secured position it was just a technicality to apply and interview again. He sent a QR code and I couldn’t access it and emailed my DM about a direct link because I couldn’t use the QR code. I never received a response. I kind of figured he got lazy and wouldn’t be interviewing me or going through the hiring process and just proceed. This was about two weeks ago. Anyhow, I recently found a listing on Indeed…

Office job drug tests

So i went through 4 years of college, good attendance, good grades… can hardly get an interview and when I do, they need multiple interviews. If they offer me the job they now need me to piss in a cup to prove I’m not on crack? I should request a drug test from them, trust goes both ways?

My experience with American summer camps. It’s been the worst experience in my whole life

I wanted to do something while university was out. So I decided to go to an American summer camp. I’m from the UK so I got a visa, a flight and paid all agency fees, and went to it. In total it cost me £1.5k The people at the camp were awful, I was bullied by the other staff. I felt so awful everyday. All I wanted to do was hide. I’ll take my fair share of blame, being so sad all the time, means I didn’t do a good job. But they reported me for almost everything. A camper over heard a conversation I was having about pay. He was being paid $500 less. I know in America has this thing about pay. That camper told her counsellor about my conversation. I was given talking to. Another time it was our half-day and I wanted to go to some…

6 years (and still going) getting paid for doing (almost) nothing.

I just read the famous “My 5-year getting paid for doing nothing is over. I'm heartbroken” post in this sub and decide to share my story. Using a throwaway for privacy. Not in the US. Not an English speaking country. A little backstory: I've always worked in IT as a side job/freelance since before I even entered college (I'm in my late 30s now). I'm not the best programmer, I'm not the best webdesigner/webdev, but I can do a lot of everything. It never paid my bills or was the main focus of my life but it was nice to have some extra money every now and then. I had a lot of other jobs, I once even started my own business. It was really small but I loved it, such a chill life, made a lot of friends, paid the bills and a few vacations. Things started to get…

I work 100 hours every pay

And my response was “working in your pj's doesn't count! ” And then they replied with, “oh no, I work after I get home from here” (place of establishment) I rebutted with “Yep, that's the cost of being the owner. ” I will never understand owners. Like No, I will not do extra work, outside of working hours to make it better for you. I am guessing they overheard part of a conversation with a fellow employee, where if they miss a day, or have to take some time off for a medical appointment, they are “expected to make it up by working late or taking an EXTRA shift * They also don't get over time. I work in a different part of this small company, and I am flabbergasted. But I shouldn't be… not when they give out pins and a piece of paper for being there since the…

How can I change the way my brain works so that I can force myself to keep working without just wanting to die?

Background: I'm 32, I make $50k a year as a hibachi chef, I hate everything about it, and I always want to die. There's no reason to be alive. To make more money? To contribute to an economy that's literally dependent on slave labor and only exists to enrich the greedy and evil? Nah, not for me, sounds terrible. I drive past homeless people in a car that I don't want to own because cars are fucking awful and I should be able to walk or bike anywhere I need to go, but I'm forced to own one because I live in a conspiracy that has been engineered specifically to prevent me from conducting any facet of my life or moving around anywhere unless I own a car, so I have to own a car because I have to drive to a job that I hate that only serves to…

Boss: I need you to supervise the manager, but they’re still your manager.

I worked at a small business for a few years and left. When I heard the old manager was leaving I decided to ring up the owner and asked if he needed a manager. We sat down and he gave me a long line of bull shit about how he didn't really want anyone to be a manager, and that he'll take on the responsibilities of the role. a few months later nothing was being managed as the owner was sitting at home doing nothing. I started telling my coworkers what to do, as I had 6 years experience and they had around 2 each. the owner gets wind of this and sits me down to tell me he's making one of the newer employees the manager because “they're always here on time, they're always working hard, and they've never left me” I fought the urge to quit, but heard…
