should an employee ever match a customer’s negative energy?

A coworker today answered the phone but told the person she could barely hear them. Next thing, she's yelling into the phone “I can hear you, you don't have to yell at me! Well you yelled at me first!” No matter how rude or loud a customer gets with me, I try to stay calm and collective or just get a manager….

Upper management is dumb

it’s been a while since i posted on here (mainly because my job isn’t a hellish worksite anymore thanks to university standards & union rules) but nevertheless upper management continues to astound me on how stupid they are all, considering they get paid 6 figures to make the ‘best’ decision. my supervisor has been showing signs of getting burnt out for a couple of months, like he’s been here for 15+ years, starting from the bottom and working his way to a supervisor position. Him and one other supervisor are the only ones who have been here for more than two years. They’ve gone through 20+ supervisors in the past FIVE YEARS. my supervisor is absolutely the sweetest thing and really is looking out for the people under him (knows realistic expectations and doesn’t want us to work harder than our wages) at my annual review he finish the meeting…

So I quit my job today.

So it is said do what you love and you will never work a day in your life. Well I’m in college for my passion. Media production. And I needed a job to place scratch in my pocket. Well I ended up at a local restaurant. That is yellow and black. You know the one. Well my co-workers were. Well let’s just say not my favorite people. Aside from a few. Now I told them going in I can only work 3rd that’s it and well they switched me to 2nd. Now I wouldn’t of minded. But again full time college student folks. And this new hours started to afffect more then classes. My home life as well I rent a room and have two awesome roommates. And I have been slacking on my half of the chores. Ever since my new hours. And my roommates. Understand. But that’s not…

Outdated package processing system causing unnecessary stress

I work as a student worker at a university through the engineering department. We often get a lot of packages for students and faculty. We get about 10-40 packages a day. My job role is the front desk and I’m responsible for processing packages. The problem is that our system is done on paper. The fiscal staff emails us paperwork that lists the person’s name which is the recipient of the package. The name on the package does not list the recipient, but it has the name of the fiscal staff since it is ordered through the department. We are given a part order number on the paperwork which is our reference to finding the package associated with it. We have to look through the label and packing slip for the PO number to match the paperwork. It’s our only way of figuring out who the order goes to. The…

I quit a job a few years back for discrimination and they expected me to do an exit interview.

No joke at all. I was prompt, always willing to work OT, etc. The shop itself was very prominently Nepali immigrants, the in-house supervision (two guys) were both Muslim, no problem! Until I heard them talking about the “ridiculous white Christian” that always works over. Im not kidding, at all. I went to HR who also happened to be the plant managers daughter, she stated they were basically immune because they’d kept the place running for so long. I was suspended after reporting it. I quit, and went to pick my toolbox up and was sitting in the lobby, the door opens and the HR woman walks out with both of the supervisors and says “Oh, look who’s here to help you with your tools!”. I wish that I was more aware of the world when this happened. Alas, it’s been a decade since and the company went under shortly…

Commission not paid

So Friday yay! Cant wait for the bloody weekend. Upon checking my account today, I see my monthly, hard earned commission NOT THERE!!! I am in sales doing calls everyday. I have been consistently hitting my commission to earn $1500 (pre tax) every month. Last month was no different, I actually performed BETTER! But to my shock, there was no commission on my check today. I will be bringing this to my manager ASAP when I log in, but I have no idea how to corporately say “fuck you, pay me”? I feel pissed because last month i did DOUBLE the work of other employees getting paid the same. And I wonder if they got commission today……. Feeling overworked and burnt out only to get stiffed on something I earned feels like ass 🙂 Someone give advice how I can get them to pay me what the owe me!

Boss is upset that I have a second job

This is a rant more so than anything. So I just got a second job at a large retail store that provides me with enough hours to finally make ends meet. After my first pay check, I finally paid off a fine and my car! But the boss at my first job (gas station) doesn’t seem too happy. He was encouraging about getting another job and also provided a good reference. But suddenly last week, he got upset. He was said “will you still come in if we need a shift covered?” and I said “No probably not.” I have a part time contract of 10 hours and have been working there for over a year. I have never work more than 15 hours a week (i’m a full time student too). He seemed pissed that I suddenly was not at his beck and call, he said “we expect you…

Unlimited vacation time

I am looking for some genuine feedback from people that work at companies that offer unlimited vacation time. I've noticed a lot of companies are now offering this and label it as a benefit. Part of me feels like an unlimited vacation policy is actually a scam to guilt you into working more or being afraid to take time off. Personally, I would much rather have a set amount of days so that I don't have to worry about that sort of thing. If you are one of those people that are allowed to take unlimited vacation, how long have you worked at your company and how much vacation do you take per year?
