A friend of mine has been trying to spread the word about the behavior of many topless bars in the US and how they don’t actually pay their servers. She doesn’t have Reddit and asked that I share it for her. Her post (with some punctuation and minor edits for clarity) is as follows: “…Okay I seriously, seriously want to know why hasn't someone filed a class action lawsuit against topless bars for requiring their contracted workers to commit to a schedule and pay exorbitant fees if they miss day or are late (they are also charged just for working but that's another issue entirely). I tried working as a House mom at lipstick…they did not pay me a wage, it was just for tips only. I was required to work a schedule, clean their toilets and showers, do their accounting, and buy supplies. That s*** did not work out…

Quit again
Went back to a job I used to have 2 years ago, different location but same job. Main reason for going back was to have something stress free or maybe less stress than some of the jobs I've had since. So it's only been 3 weeks and from week one I was asking for a demotion or transfer from the higher ups since I was a lower manager and super overworked and stressed. I've heard nothing but “stick with it” and other motivational poster quotes. (You'll be promoted after a while etc). I've tried telling 4 levels of management it's too much to run a whole retail store often alone aside from some cashiers who can't leave their registers. The other day I called in the day before and it was no big deal. Today I go back to work and get cornered by 3 higher up people attempting to…
Networking conferences = pay to play
All the panels and speeches are bullshit. People go to suck up to big shots and pass around laminated resumes for the price of $500. These conferences are sometimes run under the guise of identity (e.g. a Latino professional association) but make no mistake that this is an exclusive space. Fortunately I got a grant from my school so I was able to punch above my weight in qualifications. If you’re too poor or don’t have the benefit of a well-resourced institution then sucks for you I guess. The capitalistic milieu we live in has warped vocabulary to the extent that we’re not just calling this plain old corruption.
I'm confused. My 6 month probation period got extended for another 6 months and during the meeting, I was told that I was doing well and there's nothing to worry about. This is crazy, isn't it? I'm working my arse off, hours everyday. My supervisors are happy with my progress. My employers seem to be happy too. I've recieved nothing but appreciation until now. I was given no specific reason for the extension. Am I being played with? What am I missing here?

Finally had my bad moment
So I’ve had bad jobs in the past but nothing out of the usual. But this job I’ve had now hasn’t been bad at all so far and at first was treated with a lot of respect and whatnot. Last week I was trying to be open about issues with my on call schedule as I really needed them covered for this past weekend because my grandmas health was declining. My boss who I had a solid relationship hits me with a “not to sound like a dick but how much time do you really need to go see her?” And basically explains that if nobody is willing to cover my on call that I was SOL. Thursday hits and she passes away. I tell my boss that I probably won’t be in Friday and he basically says he’s got me covered till 12… He does get my Sunday on…
Bad Boss Gets His Due
Posting on behalf of my friend. He has always worked in sales and has been with his current company for about 6 months. They recruited him with the promise of more money, less work etc. On paper it all lined up. In practice it did not. His boss was rude and indifferent to my friends performance. My friend was the number 1 closer every month he was there, yet his boss refused to give him better accounts. This limited his potential income so he casually began looking for a new job. He found one that was a step up in role and pay. He accepted and was going to tell his new company this week, leave on a good note, not say anything bad about his time there. Well last week his boss called him and began tearing into him about how his paperwork on 1 deal was missing…
