I got on LinkedIn many years ago to make applying for jobs easier and to let recruiters know I'm looking for work when I wanted another job. But I've never learned it's etiquette, if it has a specific etiquette. Anyway, someone has initiated a 'connection' with me from my previous job. I've always thought it best to send someone a message stating the reason you want to connect/network with them, or just outright know them and see them regularly. I didn't really interact with this person in question but did see them in the background maybe twice a year? Just wondering what others would do? Could this be someone trying to pull me back in? Do people just randomly add each other?

Laid off twice this year
On Friday I was laid off. What’s crazy is I was laid off back in February. I started this new job in April. It feels crazy to have to go through this again. And now I have to explain two lay offs on my resume? Is anyone else’s industry struggling like this or am I just truly this unlucky.

Being productive while working from home
Hello guys, Italian young entrepreneur here with a small 100% remote company. I'm interested in your opinion about this article >> https://www.economist.com/finance-and-economics/2023/06/28/the-working-from-home-delusion-fades They're saying your productivity will be less from home but a happier person. I think working 100% remotely could probably be risky after several months straight, but forcing people to return office is worst. Maybe organizing some team building (I remember something from the WordPress team doing that) from 2 to 4 times per year, just to let people meet others and be able to create human connections. I'm super interested in feedback cause my goal is to have always a remote team (also from other countries) but to learn as best as I can to manage it and let people able to live better!
To: employee From: Gilbert Hugh Due to financial cut-backs, you will now be expected to self-expense all office supplies, including but not limited to: pencils, erasers, pens, paper, stationary, folders, staples, paperclips, brads(?) and photocopies. All parking will now be metered by the hour. Electricity consumption and all telephone charges will be deducted from your paycheck. The board of directors at insuricare wishes to thank you for you selfless sacrifice through this time of financial uncertainty. It is because of you, the employee, that insuricare has recorded its highest profits in years. Remember a successful company makes for a successful employee(?) —–, a(?) Penny you save is another penny that goes in our profits(?)
I hope nobody signs up for this

Is this AI in action?
‘As part of the massive layoffs at Twitter after Musk’s takeover late last year, the company no longer has a press department. A request for comment on the case sent to the former contact email received a poop emoji as the auto-reply.’ Surely every former member of staff secretly wanted to give this same response. How does someone receive 7 raises and go up to $15/hr? At least most people on the post crowned the school.
I just don’t understand it at ALL, for like 90% of people, their work would lay them off with a second thought the moment a minor recession or problem hits them, so why tf would you ever actually be passionate about any job ever, is this just a dying practice from back in the 50s to 70s or 80s? I understand if you are like a scientist or engineer, or something making a good demonstrable and seeable change in the world, but for most people it makes no sense to me So, excuse me for not knowing anything, but I am a 21m and still in college, and I believe I am normal and hang out with normal people my age also in college So, I am not aware of ever personally meeting a person who was passionate about their work, but that is probably just the position that I’m…
Change of Employment
Info: me (25m) and boss/also my dad 52 I was verbally and physically assaulted (and fired) as I was telling my boss I was going to be leaving the company in a month. I didn’t hit him back, I just calmly took him to the ground and left. Obviously multiple laws were broken but I didn’t want to pursue anything given my circumstances (even though I was disowned before I was fired and assaulted). But that all changed when I received the change of employment paperwork. It was marked down as quit voluntarily/ left on own volition. This made me so mad and screwed me over. Not only was I disowned, fired, and assaulted- I can’t even qualify for unemployment now. So I think I’m going to either demand a year of severance or sue and get a almost guaranteed $200K payout. Never trust your boss even if they are…
