Now I will preface this by saying I appreciate getting a raise at all. But I go above and beyond my duties and much work longer hours then my coworkers. We get paid by what we produce for company, I earn my pay but I spend more time working my ass off to do so. I take on a lot of the harder work. I was ready to leave over this and had jobs to back it up. I was promised the difference in pay to stay. This was after telling me I was too valuable to leave and too valuable in my position to move up in company. Even though I have the experience, attitude, ability and already take on the role with out the title basically. I am treated as the role essentially by coworkers. I was told to have wait for reviews for raise. They were only…
Month: July 2023
A thought that crossed my mind today. With the impending UPS strike, non union employees and potential scabs are being harassed and bullied both online and in front of their jobs. Most of these employees get paid like shit too, and they don't have the luxury of having a legalized mafia protecting them and fighting for their rights. And then I thought about it. There's literal GOP donors on the board at UPS, and instead of harassing people like this, they decide to harass the people who can't go a week without a missed paycheck. Fuck the Teamsters and fuck mega unions that are no worse than the corporations they claim to be striking against.
I’ve applied to a senior role with a particular req number and have had 4 interviews with a new company than the one I am currently at. My 1st interview was with HR and 2nd interview was with a manager. My 3rd interview was with another manager where I was told that the company is actually hiring for two senior roles, same job description and that the company thought I’d be a better fit for the other position. The other position is a totally new role in the company. My 4th and final interview was with the director and VP, the director told me not to feel discouraged if I don’t hear back soon because there is a formality with HR. I logged in to my application and noticed I had a new job req under my candidate profile for the other position, which has not been posted yet on…
How much is your on call pay?
We are paid $140 to be on call for 1 week straight all hours. The expectation is to be able to log on and work the ticket within an hour. If you’re paid hourly you still get paid your hourly rate for the time you work but salary employees do not get any extra pay. My company is adamant $140 is already too high, I’m trying to get some other examples so I can make a better case the current arrangement is not enough. This is an IT job as well.
In a zoom interview, this manager would ask me a standard question then immediately turn his head away to look at something off camera so that I was responding to the back of his head. Every single time. I have zero interest in this job now since it's pretty obvious how they treat people in general let alone an employee but I'd like the 30 minutes I wasted on it back.
I resigned on Facebook talking shit.
I worked for a major mining company for over a decade. I saw people treated horribly, it was hard to deal with. I was nothing but a good employee, no write ups, no hr issues ever. I had perfect attendance, managed my time well. I helped anyone I could learn how to operate machines I was well versed in operating. After a decade I was ready for something with better hours. My former supervisor who I felt I helped get his promotion promised me a really good job. Multiple people wanted me in this position, it was a perfect fit. This guy straight up promised me I would get it, I cancelled interviews with other departments because I trusted my boss. He gave the job to his buddy and lied about it, he's still lying about it. I decided I was not going back ever again. I was sick of…
Context: I live in Colorado, so there's government-mandated paid time off for sick and family leave. I also work at a company that pays time-and-a-half on certain federal holidays. I was scheduled to work July 4th, one of these time-and-a-half days. I got sick, put in a request to use sick time, and was approved for the request. Paycheck dropped two days ago. Sick time is being paid out at day rate, not rate for July 4th. According to the paid sick leave (check link) “Leave must be paid for time on leave, and at the same pay rate the employee earns during time worked.” The time I would have worked would have been at the higher rate, but the sick time paid out wasn't. Should I call and report this to my work to have my pay adjusted? Have I misread this somehow? Any advice would be appreciated.
Hired, then fired before first day
The job market is tough these days and getting a decent paying job after the 10's of thousands of layoffs over the past year has made landing another job insanely difficult. That said, I was able to get in with a staffing company that was doing some work for a bank. I went through 2 interviews and they loved me. I tend to interview well once I get through the AI resume filters. This was a specialty position with the bank, not financial services or a teller or anything, this position had more to do with marketing and advertising and was set to pay $85/hr in a senior level role. This comes after 6 months of looking for a job. Given that this is a contract position to start at a bank, I was required to go through 3 background checks including an FBI screening that required them taking my…
