We need to have laws surrounding the use of AI/automation.

As I learned with Machine Learning and running a few experiments with AI's, I have come to a conclusion I'd like to share; We need laws surrounding the use of AI's in the workplace. We need to have protections in place that prevent the over-automation of jobs. This would prevent job-loss over technology. It's not just the problem with copyrights that I see, It's also how replacing people in some jobs with AI, might lead to some serious issues later down the road, such has huge unemployement rates and an overuse AI could led to industry stagnation (AI's can only work within the scope of their model). That being said, We need a standardisation of the use of it, the how, when and in what capacity it should be used. This would create a scenario where ALL PEOPLE benefit from it, but not at the detriment of people or industry.

Just walked out of my job.. please tell me it gets better.

Long story short, I'm physically incapable of lifting a certain weight because of my build but today (and many others before) I was basically told to get on with it even though I mentioned I was really struggling. I was just met with anger from management, so I went and attempted to do the job because I can't stand confrontation. Anyway, here I am trying to lift this block of goods that weighed more than me when I just gave it my all and somehow managed to get the god damn block off the ground when I felt the most incredible pain of my entire life shoot up my neck. Dropped and broke the stupid thing to add insult to injury. Hobbled to management when they absolutely exploded because of my incompetence and that I have damaged customer goods. Pain fueled me had an absolute burst of energy, got the…

Teamsters planning a strike, let’s gooooooo!

Policy negations have been on going and I’m so excited that we have a leader who is willing to fight for his brothers and sisters. If any of you have been keeping up with news on the Teamsters and UPS battle, you’ll know that tensions are very high and if UPS doesn’t make them a good offer, the teamsters will initiate the biggest strike in US history. I am sooooo excited for this. For anyone who doesn’t know about this. UPS offered up an insult of a policy that was a slap to the face to all warehouse workers and drivers. They wanted to cut driver wages and keep lowballing part time warehouse workers which have already been getting low pay for quite a while. Yes, they want to CUT wages even though they made a record breaking profit during Covid. Right now, they have until July 30 to bring…

Bullshit corporate

Not my own story and had permission to post. A senior tech was leaving their job and the party that was expected somehow got turned into an employee appreciation event. The most messed part up was the person leaving was vegetarian and the only vegetarian food was fruit.

We owe them nothing

Closed out the largest deal in the history of my company. Guaranteed a steady income stream with heavy recurring revenue with a large profile client…75K a month with everything currently closed out, was working on another deal that would have been another $25K to $35K. Computer gets locked out. I call my boss and he acted all surprised and said he would call IT. Get a call from head of HR, due to “economic downturns” we have to eliminate your position. Meanwhile the CEO sends out daily emails about needing to hit numbers and they hire a bunch of 1099 people to try and close deals…

Friends and family think I’m insane to live in a van to keep more of my wage. Are they gaslighting me?

TLDR; Is 5 years better spent buying a property but staying on low wages, or studying for a high paying job but paying rent forever? I thought of a way to end the rent demon forever – by living in a van near my job, renting parking space for $80 – $120 per month, $0 on energy bills, $0 on travel and using public facilities. In 4-5 years of nightmare rough living, I would have enough to buy a tiny one bed apartment in a cheap area and never pay rent again. It's not great, but my terrible wage would do more than double what it does for me today. When I mentioned this to my parents, their reaction was disgust, suspicion and confusion. They didn't understand why I wanted to live a “hobo lifestyle” and accused me of taking shortcuts to avoid working hard for a better job. My…

Practitioner (not my boss) at work ordering me around

Hey, I'm in Ontario working part time as a receptionist at a physiotherapy/chiropractic/massage clinic. The practitioners all have contracted agreements with the clinic director and his wife, both my bosses. They're not legal employees. One of the chiropractors likes to order me around and tell me to do random things that I haven't heard directly from my boss. I'm not sure if they have authority to do this, and I'm sure there's nothing I can really find online about it, but it's really aggravating me. I've worked here for a while and we've had dozens of pracs and none of them have acted like this, which gives me the impression that they all knew they didn't really have authority to order reception staff around. Anyway, not sure what to really do about it, just annoyed.

I guess I shouldn’t be surprised (delivery work)

So I'm a disabled individual who collects some benefits, but also works part-time as a delivery driver for Uber Eats. As I'm sure people in here understand, the benefits alone aren't enough and if I work slightly TOO much I'll lose all my benefits including Medicare. So it's a careful balance. Anyway, I've only been delivering for a couple weeks and today I had my longest delivery, which of course didn't tip. So I did a quick analysis of my time delivering so far and noticed a predictable pattern already developing: McDonald's deliveries to low-income housing: tipped Taco Bell deliveries to low-income housing: tipped Starbucks deliveries to cash-register workers: tipped Corporate lunch deliveries from a nice restaurant to the executive floor of a bank: no tip 30-minute drive to deliver gyros to John Deere: no tip Now I don't expect to make a living off of this, I just expect…

Trying to cut my hours and idk what to do?

Hi there idk if this is the right place to post this or if anyone can help/direct me on what to do. I work for a nonprofit therapy office where the executive director is a tyrant, and of course there’s no on above her. I work the evening reception shift of 11am to 8pm, that what was stated on the offer letter i signed when i accepted the job ( picture attached) Most of the time there’s no one in the office past 7pm, sometimes 6:30. At first i used to leave bc I’m in an office that sees a multitude of individuals including but not limited to those with active court cases and sex offenders. There is no security precautions in our building ie none of the front doors or office doors are locked/ needs to be buzzed in, I am very vulnerable if something were to happen. Someone…

Is reverting from Salary-based pay to hourly allowed?

The Utah company I work for wants to better track a certain few individuals who are paid salary, yet receive complaints because these individuals leave early, don't show up, make their own schedules, etc. They are removing all salaries, and everyone is going to hourly pay to be able to track who is working the most. I personally am not worried because I see the silver lining and will ultimately make more money with overtime being available now, but I want to ensure it's being done legally and my rights are not infringed. I am told my current salary will be converted to an hourly equivalent, and that my benefits stay the same. Should I be worried?
