My job is pretty good benefits and pay wise, and the work has been really interesting and pretty doable. I work in some business development stuff. But as our team started getting better, other departments started asking for more and more “help”. And our managers, eager to look good, kept accepting the work and piling it all down to the team. Still, our team was pretty good at saying no and maintaining a fair workload. But the last year there's been a change. There's a new senior of the company and he's an ex military drill instructor, and you can fucking tell. The problem now, is that if you say you can't do something or if something goes wrong (even accidentally) and it's “your fault”, you'll be met by being screamed at by the new boss for 15 minutes of a meeting. I mean SCREAM, man can get red in…
Month: July 2023
Recap: I’m a “mid-level” person and I made an internal movement to a role I have less than 10% of experience in. My boss keeps telling me to fix my work without any proper precise guidance or instructions. So I finish my project and I was told “please relook, I spotted a mistake”. I’m clueless so I said “what’s the mistake” and she says “you look, I’m not checking” and this is due in the next few hours. Last month, I made good progress because she took 10 minutes to explain the logic and i could do it well (that I felt proud of myself). Now, she can’t even spend 5 minutes explaining. I was feeling anxious but now… with this happening, I’m just tired of my boss’ crap. I keep wanting to leave but I know I can learn a lot in my job if I can just handle…
they're putting any uncovered absence down as a point, and actually wrote being in a car wreck and out for a few days or having to go to a funeral as examples of still getting a point
Not a single callback
I know this is a subreddit about ending work, but I need to vent a bit. In the beginning of the year I fell ill and my work decided to fire me because I wouldn't tell them the diagnosis, only how long I'd be out (they're not allowed to enquire about the nature of the illness in my country, nor fire you for illness but it's hard to prove in court that is what they did). Anyway, been looking for a job since my benefits are 60% of my second to last pay (I had two employers the past 12 months, so my insurance deems that to be unstable and thus they go with the first employer of the year instead of the last one, difference in pay was 500 a month easily). I don't have enough money to cover all my costs, I have pets that have helped me…
So I'm working as a web-developer for over 10 years and had been working at a small agency (less than 10 people, owners and me included) for years. We built websites for various customers in a very wide range of sizes. I had a permanent contract. It was a great team, very friendly colleagues and a lot of silly fun on the work-floor. The problem was that the owners were very bad at managing projects, as well as bad at estimating costs. There was no dedicated project manager so big projects always went 2 or 3 times over budget at least, making them essentially a loss. They however got money from all the completed projects that still paid fees for support and maintenance, so they were profitable regardless. It was however always exhausting since they were always too late delivering and over-promising features. There was never any down-time. It was…
In short, i managed to get a new job a few days ago, and yesterday was my first day at work. At first it all seemed ok, good even.Customers seemed nice, Coworkers were nice aswell, rather low pay at minimum wage but still manageable. That was, until i started talking to my coworkers about an average work day. I instantly got hit with multiple red flags. Stuff like “We all start working 40 minutes earlier each day because otherwise we just wont get the work done until the shop opens” and “Unusally we dont do breaks”. Etc. No. Simply no. F*** that. I quit on the same day. 40 Minutes unpaid each day is almost a months worth of missed salary over an entire year. Im not doing free work, especially not on minimum wage. Not even considering the break times. Sadly, this seems to be normal nowdays. Expecting…
If a company pays for 40 hours a week sowing up 15 min earlier is gifting them 1.25 hours a week. When companies ask you to be earlier they should allow to leave earlier too. I get very annoyed by this. I already lost time in my commute, you can lose time in the set up,contemplate those 15 as worked or pay overtime. Is about 5 hours a month, times 30 is 150 bucks. Why should I give a company 150 bucks?
Got my job offer pulled for negotiating
Got offered an entry level role at a medium sized concrete company, on the contracting team. Had to travel three hours to where I’d be relocating too, to complete medical, drug test, paperwork, etc. Payrate was a dollar less than I wanted, and below market rates, so asked the boss if there was any wiggle room. He said he’d have ‘talk’ about it. Fast forward three days, after uniform sizing and everything, I drop in with some paperwork and had HR inform me that my job offer has been withdrawn and that I wasn’t in a ‘position’ to negotiate. Also that they now thought I’d suck at the job, and would probably walk as soon as I found one with better pay. Manager wouldn’t even look at me.
Left a company at the end of season and after a break from work i decided to get another job for a better company with better pay, better medical, just all around better, plus the old boss ripped me off for $600+ and never rectified the situation. I stated I was not returning after seasonal break. My leaving the company has left the old company without enough workers upon startup. My idiot loudmouth shnook of a brother works at a store, he seen my old boss and told him all about my new job. Now the old boss is calling me up on the phone. I am not answering his calls. He can go to hell!! He can’t pay me enough to deal with his problems… Also, I am dealing with the labour board on the wage theft with the old employer and he hasn’t been notified, I guess it…
