Curious about concrete work

I'm going to start this off knowing people have different experience and different opinions that id love to hear and learn from. In my area many construction jobs are paying 12 to 13 an hour. A company called me and wants to offer 14 an hour to work concrete/demolition. It seems low to me. I have always wondered what incentive and desire would people my age have to work these fields when walmart is starting at 15-16 in my area and mcdonalds starting at 17. I want to get into the trades but it won't pay the bills. Most of the rent here is 1200 to 1800 dollar for an apartment and to qualify I'd have to make at least 4k- 5k monthly.

Am I being payed enough?

Hi. So, I work as Data Entry Operator for $11/hour in the lovely state of Texas. My company handles medical insurances forms from Mexico, Canada and the U.S. All I do is input information from a scanned documents to the computer and it goes from pre data, pre data QA, post data to post data QA. Each document set holds from 1 to 100 documents and depending on the documents, it will lead you to where you need to fill it out. Let me tell you, it is exhausting. 8 hours of sitting on computer, staring at a screen, wrists hurting because you need to maintain a steady pace without pausing. Breaks? 10 min. Lunch? 30 min Sure, the offer overtime but its not enough for 11/hr. Minus taxes and such, it comes down to a (at minimum $820) I heard from a coworker that two years ago, it was…

Wages & Mind Games

Started a new job about three months ago and now am considering leaving. Would like any feedback from the community and curious if anyone else has been in a similar situation… During my initial “interview” the co-owner/manager asked what I wanted to make. Without giving too much though or research I gave him a number (which I regret was too low). The manager admitted that the number was low but said we would keep me at the wage for a “trial run” and if I learned more skills at the company (ie become more valuable) they would increase my pay quickly. A month ago I was given a small raise (below what they had initially said I would receive) I took it in the hopes that now (this month) I’ll have a bit more negotiating power based off my performance. I learned today that a new hire has started off…

Last paycheck withheld.

Ohio. My husband went on vacation from June 4th to 10th and came back on Monday the 12th for work. He had used nearly the last of this PTO for vacation, which is apparently prorated for the year. He told them that Tuesday it was was his last week as he had another job. He was never paid for the 30ish hours in that week's paid period. Is there anything he can do?

Suspension case

quite long ! Many details but Also many details I couldn’t fit in Hello I am 22 (F) . I work as a gov contractor. On Friday last week I got sent to HR and they had suspended me for this week so they can investigate complaints about me . I figured out 2 people who reported me . One was my reference and a former friend of mine outside of work . Backstory to that I had worked at her site for about a month , 10 days in she stopped talking to me and out of respect incase I did something wrong I gave her space . Towards the end I sent her a text asking her if we could made amends and asked her what I did wrong . She responded somewhat positive saying she just needed space and we could still be friends . In person…

An intern writing about people who rely on tips, just feels like it belongs here. And no, the article didn’t discuss the employer’s role in compensating workers.

Hired to be a team leader and never given team leader responsibilities which was my fault apparently

Hello Reddit, So I was hired in May to be a landscape Team Leader back in May with a small 2 owner 2 laborer crew with a plan of building the crew up this summer. I was told on my first day we would spend the first 6-8 weeks learning their company standard and rhythm of how they like to operate, no problem as that is a standard way of onboarding to a new company. So time goes by and in my eyes and past experience we were completing projects as scheduled and were getting in the rhythm of things with eachother as a team. Throughout this time we had a few common hiccups and a couple wtf moments but nothing that was solved through teamwork. 3 weeks in and they hire another laborer as planned, we work the day and tensions rise as everyone is trying to express their…

Boss comments on my appearance and regularly tells how unprofessional I am.

I will start by giving you my back story and then tell you the work drama. I am a career massage therapist, health coach and herbalist. I have studied with some really amazing holistic practitioners. For the last 18 months I have been trying to start up my own business. Since my partners industry has collapsed (glassblowing) I decided to get a massage therapy job where I can earn alot of money with out working 40 hours a week. I decided to start working with my friend at a spa. I went to the spa for an interview got the job, the lady told me what is expected of me and how she runs her business. Ok cool I comply with the dress code which is wearing all black and have hair pulled back. I don't wear make up, I'm kind of chubby and maybe a 4/10 on the attractive…
