I began my boycott of Chik-Fil-A years ago after learning of their politics regarding LGBTQIA+ people. I digress–that is not the point of this post. The point of this post is that a franchise owner in Chik-Fil-A is trying to do right by his employees and it's gaining traction. If you read the article, he genuinely seems to care about his employees and working to find creative solutions to make things better. The man uses google docs to solicit feedback, seeks 1:1 meetings with all employees to help improve things. Best quote:
“Lindsey looked at his schedule and leaders next to the bottom line. “I realized, I’m asking a ton of these folks,” he says. “They’re literally working 70 hours a week, week in and week out.” To achieve the marks Lindsey was hitting, staff sacrificed vacations. They’d joke about being exhausted and needing to go home and collapse. “Honestly, I can do better,” he recalls.”
I like how he takes accountability and says “I can do better” and he worked with this staff to combat
the problem head-on while not impacting the business when ensures job security.
If given the choice, I would certainly choose to work a 3-day work week (12-14 hours a day) with regularly scheduled hours that are predictable along with full benefits so I can have 4 days off a week to spend time doing what I want. And the article says that once a month, there is a 7-day stretch where some employees will have off due to this schedule! Not sure what the pay is, but this is a move in the right direction.
