3 Year waitlist for union job & canned after a month

So my wife and I applied 3 years ago and were put on a waitlist of a couple hundred people. You have to pass their skill tests and when your number is called, you got the job with no interview process. When someone retired or quit we would move up 1 in queue. Fast forward 3 years, my wife got the call. Gave her 2 weeks notice and moved 400 miles away from our home to start her new career. The 1st 12 months are a probationary period before granted permanent employment. Month 1 she had a Dr appointment which led to an emergency surgery. Surgery took place near our home and she ended up having to take 1 month off due to complications. After 2 weeks in the hospital and a few days into recovery, we're driving back up to her new job so she can start again on…

After 2 weeks in the hospital and a few days into recovery, we're driving back up to her new job so she can start again on Monday.
Every day off, she was instructed to call the sick line and her manager to let them know she will not be in.
So we drive 8 hours, 1 hour away from her new spot near her parents house, she makes the call and they let her go over the phone.
No matter how patient you may be, sometimes it just doesn't work out. Went from 40k to 80k to 0k in the matter of 2 months. Even with that (Zero)k were still ok which is all that matters. Were blessed she made a full recovery and are starting from scratch. This Friday I'm on my way to her new area so we can start fresh temporarily staying at her parents house.
We have no idea what we're going to do, but if we don't go for it now, idk if we ever will.
The last few months have been extremely rough, with her health, financials and everything in between. It felt like we finally got a break when they called her offering a salary like we've never seen before, spent a month looking at new homes, talking about finally starting a family and all the things a young married couple could dream of. Only to be pushed back to square 1 with no sense of direction moving forward.
