5 hour shifts with no break, no guaranteed end time – the food service industry needs serious reform

I started my job slinging pizzas this week. Today was my third day. In the state I’m in, a 15 minute break is required by law after 4 hours of work. But they have the audacity to look at my surprised when I asked to go on break? They said they don’t do them for 5’s, but I can time a 5 minute breather. What the fuck? But whatever, you take a lot of mini breaks to vape in the back or text, I’ll move on. But today, my training shift was from 4 to 9. It was a busy day, we still have customers at 9, but ample help. I took off my apron and said I’m leaving, and the manager looked dumbfounded. She cops an attitude and says my scheduled time isn’t a guarantee. Um. I look it up and forums all across the internet say how they don’t even check when they’re gonna leave, that they’ve fainted cause they needed a break, that the job runs them ragged.

Fuck. That. I don’t give a single shit about this place. I refuse to concede to that.
