I work in a factory making jeep Cherokees. Have worked there for 12 years, since I was 21. They told me I would be laid off in early January. I am still working in February. After I became a “temporary employee” I refused to learn anything new. I also refused to do any work outright, I will train replacements but I will not work in a station by myself.
My boss came and asked me to go do a job that I know but some things have changed. I told him I would need a certified trainer to be with me while I learn the job. And that I will need at least 2 weeks to a month before I would feel comfortable doing the job by myself. They just laid off 14 people in my area. They are going to lay me off soon. If they are short-staffed, that's their problem, not mine.
Mind you the people who are taking my spot and I have been training I treat very well. I let them go to break early and hold no resentment for them keeping their jobs. None of us chose this, so why would I be mad at them?
