I’ve worked in kitchens and the service industry for so long. After covid I really have a hard time ever stepping into a kitchen again. The constant sexual harassment (“jokes”), people not caring about covid, gossip and bs…. I’m over it.
I wouldn’t mind going back to a w2 job if I’m learning something new. But damned if I can ever get a single reply to an indeed application that isn’t in the direct field I’ve been in my whole career.
It’s very frustrating. I’m not expecting to switch from a baker to an engineer and wouldn’t apply for jobs I didn’t think I could do. For these companies to under pay people, expect them to already be incredibly skilled and passionate, and expect them to stick around for years for less than a living wage?
If these jobs want to pay less than a living wage, they should be thought of as low paid internships, and train people who will want to learn. 🤷️
