Antiwork

My agency has changed their tune about me owning my traumatic history now that it may get them funding and good press.

I work in the mental health field. I've been repeatedly told I need to maintain a “professional image” and keep my traumatic history close to my chest, and be very careful about who knows. I overcame an incredible amount of hardship and trauma to make it where I am, and I work with people facing much of the same trauma I have. I am not quiet about my experiences with my coworkers and shared my story in my interview. I take pride in what I've overcome, but I don't want to lose my job so I'm extremely careful outside of colleagues and close friends. Someone from the development and communications department contacted me today about them interviewing me and doing a story on me. I've been doing this work long enough to know they did so because they realize it will get them more funding and some damn good press.…

I told them to speak to my supervisor. I'm very curious to see how this plays out. However, I am pissed that things would change once it benefited them. I'm so fucking sick of this kind of shit.
