Since my coworker left for maternity leave, I‘ve been taking over her responsibilities (hers were higher than mine). This has been going on for more than half a year and it‘s quite exhausting.
I‘ve asked my boss for a raise, because I‘ve been payed the same amount since I entered this job two years ago. He agreed, since my responsibilities have doubled and I also had to train a new employee that’s supposed to help our team during my coworkers maternity leave.
He brought my request to HR and our COO. They were enraged, that I dared to ask for a raise and that my job is even overpaid as it is now. They ripped my boss a new one for wasting their time. According to them, I‘m way too young (23) and have too little work experience (2 years) to receive a raise.
It’s not even about the money, I only asked for a raise, since I wanted some appreciation for all my efforts. Many of my older colleagues in the company earn way more money and never get denied a raise. Some of them have less responsibility than I do.
It‘s so unfair… I get denied a raise due to my age? It sucks for my team, but I‘ve now decided to never give 100% again and truly work for only my entry level wage.
It also sucks knowing how much upper management earns and now they‘ve successfully saved the company another dime by refusing to give a simple office clerk a tiny little raise.
I kinda came here to rant and get it of my chest. I‘m sure I‘m not the only one struggling with this…
