To celebrate record profits this year instead of staff christmas bonuses we’re doing a tax write off, yay!

So my company doesn't really do bonuses, maybe for the big guys in corporate but not for the people who actually keep it all running. The last couple of years they've done a crappy gift basket for every contracted part time/full time employee who has worked for them 6 months or more. 2020's gift basket was filled with expired things… Last years gift basket was nothing to write home about and the whole bottom of it was filled with paper to make it look better and fuller than it was. Last years gift basket was nothing to write home about and the whole bottom of it was filled with paper to make it look better and fuller than it was.

Well recently we've had so many emails about how we're smashing new account sign ups, smashing sales records, how our profits are up 25% on last year and overall how amazing things are going.

However, even with all these record profits, we haven't gotten a pay rise that wasn't legally required when our government raised minimum wage.

We got a store manament wide email yesterday telling us of how this year corporate plans to make a big donation to charity for Christmas and talking it up as a really nice thing to be doing.

And then the last line at the very bottom of the email informed us that this would be instead of a staff giftbasket or bonus.

Record profits and instead of giving back to the staff who helped make that happen, they're donating to charity which is 100% tax deductible instead.
