I earned my CNA license recently after working in various assisted living facilities starting at 18 years of age. After earning my CNA I was able to open up doors to various job opportunities such as working in a hospital setting. I applied to one of the major hospitals in my area. I figured getting a job there wouldn't be an issue mainly due to the pandemic. I also saw on my local news network that they were urgently hiring CNAs. Out of my surprise I hear back from them and they scheduled an interview with me. Mind you the pay was going to be $`13.50 an hour… But I suppose you “gotta start somewhere”… The RN interviewed me via Microsoft Meets, and she went over the daily routine with me and everything. I don't exactly remember all my answers during the interview… But all I know is that my performance during the interview wasn't terrible. At the end of the interview she throws me with, “Okay, if you're selected after this interview there will be 2 more interviews. Thank you for your time and bye bye.” The sudden urgency of hanging up didn't seem like a good sign but I guess whatever. I still waited patiently for a response back. Finally after a week I get an email stating, “Greetings (candidate), although you and your resume shows that you have so much to offer. We decided to go forward with seeking other candidates. We do however encourage you to apply to other positions the company has to offer if you feel you qualify.” I was a little disappointed but I still carried on with my job search. Later during my search I stumbled across this facility that's only a few blocks away from my house (I live in a great part of town). The facility there is full of higher end clientele to work with, the staff there is well trained, the pay is $18.40 an hour (Differential pay for weekends and holidays) plus health benefits and great tuition assistance for school if I'm going to pursue my LPN license. I applied, got an interview, and pretty much got hired on the spot. After a few months of working there I receive another email from the major hospital I was rejected from stating, “Hello (candidate), are you interested in reapplying for our CNA position? If you are please go to our website 123456.com/careers.” Believe it or not, I feel like them denying me employment there was the best thing that has EVER happened to me. I'm thanking god everyday for my pay, benefits package, great clientele, and management. Never let a major corporation or business keep you down, and always remember your worth!
