I posted a little while back saying how I was becoming disheartened with the job search, I recently had an interview that went great. The team and boss seemed lovely and it was everything I was hoping to find, I was really excited about it.
I went in today to sort out my contract, payment details etc. I was there for about an hour when I asked about the uniform, to then be told I would have to remove my lip piercing..
I was told I would be able to wear a retainer as long as it is clear and not visible.. which I suppose is fine. But I am very frustrated about this. I have spoken to them and been seen in person multiple times, and no one said a word. Even went as far as having me sign an agreement and give over bank details. I know places can have whatever rules they would like, but the job I just left was in the exact same environment, and I had this piercing for over 4 years without issue. I just assumed that since no one had mentioned it and with me having worked in the same environment previously, it was fine.
Now I am unsure of what to do because I have declined offers from other places that seemed decent because of them telling me straight up piercings are not allowed. I feel like I would be going against my own principles by agreeing to this. But after such a long time of really bad luck in the job search I am not sure I would be able to find something that fit as well.. and I really need a steady income again..
I'm just so disappointed, I thought I had found what I was looking for. Now I have to make the choice between ignoring my principles and working somewhere that seems to be what I had hoped for, or declining their offer and being back to square one.
Does anyone have any advice or words of wisdom? I really don't know what to do. Thanks.
