I’ve been looking for a job since April-May of 2021 with very little luck. I got an immediate offer to work for an insurance company and took it out of fear that I wouldn’t find anything else. After about a month there I realized that they cared very little about workers (lack of COVID compliance, bureaucratic bullshit, shitty managers, etc) and that I needed to really start looking for something in my field while I had the relative financial stability to be selective.
I started that position in August, and started applying for new jobs in October. By January my pay was lowered (it was a sales position based on commission with a small first year stipend) and my manager’s passive aggressiveness was at an all time high. I quit with 4 final interviews lined up, believing that being in the final round of interviews for 4 positions was secure enough. Since then I’ve heard nothing from 2 companies and 2 others rejected me.
I’m so frustrated, especially because “the great resignation” made quitting seem so freeing. Most positions have been telling me that they loved me or that I was even overqualified but they chose someone else. Is this just me or is this happening to anyone else? I feel like forced unknown are trying to intentionally wear me down.
Is anything else on the job market and feeling similarly stagnated? Has anyone who was on the market for a long time recently been hired and have some insight or advice?
