My friend currently works at a college as a laboratory assistant and since Covid she has been the ONLY ONE for the whole science department and she works tirelessly to set up all the biology and chemistry labs when needed, along with making stock solutions, calibrating equipment and testing safety equipment such as the eye washes and showers. She gets paid $10/hr for all of this.
A couple months ago her boss got arrested and ended up getting fired so she applied for his position and was also working that position until the job was filled. The entire science department recommended her to HR and she has the experience, know-how and references to back it up. She also has 2 degrees in environmental science and chemistry and she knows her stuff.
HR got back to her and gave her boss’s position to someone who has ZERO science related experience and hired externally. They refuse to give my friend a raise either.
And people wonder why they can’t get employees in. I hate how commonplace this treatment is to good people and I just want her to catch a break so she doesn’t have to starve herself to pay rent anymore. I’m just so mad for her and I needed a place to vent.
