Disciplinary for making food look presentable.

I work as a line cook in student pub. One of the dishes is a fried chicken sandwich made with a flattened half chicken breast marinated in buttermilk and coated in seasoned flour. An order came up and I fried the thing but it had been smashed hard and still had long stringy bits of chicken attached. All these extra tentacle bits I cut off so it didn't look like an octopus hanging out of the sandwich. I put the extra tentacle bits in a bowl and told a server to help herself because they couldn't be used. Kitchen manager came in and asked what these bits of chicken were so I told her the story. Next shift in I get pulled into the office signing a disciplinary for insubordination and tampering with recipes. Next time should I send it out as is and wait for the complaint?… r/maliciouscompliance
