Boomers continue to ruin everything they touch and we keep letting them. Right now, I work for a small company owned and managed by a very conservative boomer. Without going into too much detail, we (a small team of about 4 people) produce glass jewelry for wholesalers and retail stores. The business idea is smart and our products sell really well. I do count my blessing because I love what I do. Originally the owner worked with me as a team but as soon as I started to up my production, they just wander around the store and do fuck all to contribute. She’s very demanding, disrespectful to others, and has political rants every day. Recently she fired a 74-year-old jewelry maker without warning. Needless to say she is in no position to be an actual leader. She has been making really poor choices with the money too. In the past year she has treated herself to a new truck, a new mattress, a new mac desktop, two cruises, and various other luxuries. Meanwhile I make shit money, work full time with no benefits. It’s coming up on a year since my last raise and there is no indication I will be getting one. I love my job but I’m SICK OF BEING EXPLOITED. I don’t have any other options to keep following my passion. Anyone else feel this way? There has to be something we can do to band together and make the world better?
