Fun story I remembered

By fun I mean ridiculous. So I just browsing through the sub when i remembered an interesting thing happened to me when I worked in a call center for Marriott. At the time I lived maybe 20ish minutes away and one particular day I left the same time I always did to head to work. As soon as I made a turn into the on-ramp for the highway I had to immediately stop there was so much traffic backed up. It took about 2 hours just to get through it all as apparently a semi had tipped and cause a big accident and the usual 4 or 5 lane road was now a 1 lane road with everyone having to funnel through it. (it's a 2 lane ramp, with I believe a 3rd lane that merged into it from the regular city streets and the ramp then thins to 2.…

(it's a 2 lane ramp, with I believe a 3rd lane that merged into it from the regular city streets and the ramp then thins to 2. And the ramp is merging onto the highway, so lots of cars.)

So of course I called in to let them know I'd be late, but I didn't know how long, it's traffic. It's done when it's done and you're out of it. So then I make it to work and continue as usual.

I don't remember if it was that day or another day, but very soon after, and my manager takes me off the phones to meet with him. He tells me about how I was late for the other day and I had to be written up basically. (We get written up for every certain number of tardies, and working at a call center I'd used enough when I did not feel like coming in the whole day, but it's like every 3 times you get written up, or a warning)

Now most other times I'm sure they were me fucking around and just hit wanting to come into work but that day with the traffic was legit and I felt like it should be excused. So here's basically the conversation.

I said:
“well yeah but I mean there was a huge traffic incident prevented me from being on time. Totally unexpected.”

Manager:
“well we don't really excuse those types of tardies unless it was really bad.”

Me: “uhhh yeah, it was. They had to basically block off the entire road except for 1 lane. That's why it took so long”

And I swear he basically just ignores it with some lame line saying “well either way I have to give you this warning and if you want to challenge it you fill out this form” (which they gave with every warning or write up). But I mean I wasn't going to cuz I really hadn't planned on staying much longer after the year and half or so if being there.

And the best thing his stupid mouth said to me after like he was giving some great advice was this: “and well I know this happen but maybe just try leaving a little earlier to avoid things like that as you're not late.”

Dude really thought that was good advice to give lol oh yeah you're right, I'll just leave my house 2 hours earlier everyday for work to avoid any kind of possible traffic incident. Just to avoid a stupid fucking tardy for a shitty under paying job I wanted to slit my wrists at everyday lol

I was just surprised at the absurdity that came from his mouth regarding something totally out of my control.

So yeah hope someone enjoyed the story. First time posting to this sub (which has been my new favorite lately) and just wanted to share an anecdote.

Remember to keep pulling yourselves up by your bootstraps! Lol
