I work in the vet field and often times we are slammed. My department doesn’t even have enough staffing and our manager is pushing us to a breaking point and becoming more and more demanding. The manager will often times yell at us and make inappropriate comments to our questions and concerns. They say they’re just “up front and blunt” but they’re really an asshole. Anyway I am on the bottom of the totem poll, the lowest paid employee and department. I have already made it known that we do not get paid enough for our work and that my dept being this short staffed is driving us all insane. They don’t care though, and it’s causing people from my dept to leave and find better jobs. However that leaves more work for the rest of us who stay, and it’s just getting worse.
All the other jobs I have worked in WA have given me breaks, however this one never has. I learned today by accident that in the state of WA I am required to take a 10 minute paid break every four hours of my shift. This cannot be waived, however I have never gotten a paid break, or any break at all. All we are allowed to take is an hour unpaid lunch break during our 9hr shift.
So I’m confused and not sure what to do from here. I need advice on how to proceed with this finding because I’m already on thin ice with management. But also this is a labor law violation, or I at least think it is.
