In the US: Is there a rational reason why the service industry doesn't offer minimum wage PLUS tips (at a minimum)? What's with the funky calculation of below minimum wage per hour with the hope that tips make up the difference? Why cant places offer the hourly wage and whatever tips you receive go on a 1099? I just don't get it…
