Vacation and Sick Days as a new employee

I just started a job on 09/12/2022 and I absolutely love it. I’m usually a “power through” type person when it comes to working while sick (if I’m not contagious). I had to call in last Friday due to being extremely ill with gastrointestinal issues. I don’t have any sick days accrued and I won’t have any PTO, literally 0 hours, until 09/12/2023. I would have started accruing sick days this month, but since I had an “unexcused absence”, I don’t get my 8 hours of sick time for the month. They docked my pay of course, but stated there’s a possibility of losing my healthcare coverage because I didn’t work “full time hours”. I worked 36 hours both weeks. So what am I supposed to do? Just suffer through until next year? What kind of system is this? I’m really frustrated.
