I was recently offered a promotion with a small raise. When I asked if I can negotiate the salary they said no because this is an “awarded position”. They did not hear my counter offer, simply said you cannot negotiate. Now there was a job posting for the same position on the company website. I had applied for the position and had an interview schedule. The interview was canceled and I was offered the “promotion”. The company still plans to fill the vacant spot (the one I applied for) and told me I can decline the promotion interview for the job they already offered me and if I am chosen I can then counter their offer. Any advise?
