I was initially going to major in elementary school education because I wanted an easy degree. Turns out I didn't like it and failed some classes. In Texas where I live being a teacher pays terribly anyway.
I changed fields with the goal of eventually becoming an engineer. I love my classes now and have never been happier. Engineering pays a good salary. I can breathe a sigh of relief knowing I'll be able to afford my bills and fulfilling life goals like traveling the world, buying a house, getting married and having kids. I couldn't do all that on a teacher salary.
Some suggested that I become a high school math teacher instead of an engineer. I refused. I got called an awful selfish person for wanting a well paying career that I somewhat enjoy and gets respect in society. So is it wrong of me to become an engineer and not a math teacher?
