Lowes hardware has an automated application process in which availability is asked of the applicant prior to scheduling an in person interview.
My friend applied saying he was unavailable for Saturday and Sunday only. He has a small business and helps his elderly parents. He was immediately scheduled for an interview. He showed up to find out his AGM assigned to his interview wasn't scheduled and he ended up meeting with another department manager who stated up-front that it was impossible to hire someone who can't work Saturday or Sunday.
This was a part-time position and inflexibility in availability is traditionally a full-time burden. The department manager rejected the offer of his resume and said it wouldn't matter what his resume said.
What astounds me is that this Lowes location is in one of the most expensive cities in America, and is missing close to 20 employees and can't afford to figure it out via an excel timesheet that has the complexity of a highschool assignment.
I'm convinced there's not a labor shortage, we've just promoted idiots into crashing the economy over a failure to grasp what part-time is at the end of the day to most applicants.
I told my friend he dodged a bullet and I'm convinced at this point that Lowes is a significantly worse employer than previously believed.
Talk about losing potential and future customers in one go.
