Sorry for the bluntness here but I'm just so genuinely confused and befuddled on how employment works in the US.
I'm an upcoming college graduate who is trying to look for a job, mainly entry-level administrative assistant or legislative affairs work (I'm a PoliSci major).
I'm sure this is a common theme on this sub but how the fuck are people getting these jobs? I've applied to about 30 in the last two months and have I not heard back from a single one. Not even a courtesy “thank you but we've gone a different direction”, just simple darkness! I don't have a very long resume of work, but for entry level stuff, the combination of my experience and my academics should, in any normal circumstance, be sufficient!
Not to mention the amount of jobs I would apply for would be larger if not for the “3-5 years experience” for a job that requires you to print documents and create zoom meetings all day for a measly salary of >40k (or even worse, getting paid hourly.) How can these people ethically justify this?
What on Earth is going on in this country? Just WHO are getting these jobs? These job postings sit open for months but when you apply they ghost. Is it a sick game? Why are they doing this?
