Work happy hours

Just started a new job in the corporate world about 4 months ago. This is my first full time job after college. I can honestly say I hate it so far, it so fucking soul sucking and leaves me mentally drained to the point where I don’t even want to do anything after work besides watch netflix and sleep. I gotta say one of the worst things is the “mandatory fun” aspect of it all, especially when it’s events that take place after work hours. I’m not as strongly opposed to doing thing during work hours such as team lunches, small office events, etc but I hate the idea of after work happy hours, dinners and things like that. It would be one thing if it were truly optional but at my company, and from what I’ve read many others, it is kind of looked down upon if you don’t…

It would be one thing if it were truly optional but at my company, and from what I’ve read many others, it is kind of looked down upon if you don’t go. I don’t really enjoy drinking, I am sensitive to alcohol and feel nauseous after one drink. I’m also an introvert and prefer to spend time doing my own thing, and with my own family and friends, not asshole coworkers that I have nothing in common with…

I actually had two managers come up to me at the office the other day and start asking me about why I haven’t gone to one of these happy hours yet. I was kind of surprised because I always thought these were 100% optional. I just told them that I am always busy with household chores and family stuff after work, I didn’t know what else to say lol. I have participated in all the events that have gone on during work hours, not really sure why they had to call me out for wanting to spend my free time the way I want. I already spend 40+ hours a week at work, why the fuck would I want to add any more? Please tell me I am not the only one who feels this way. Really hoping I can find a way to exit the corporate world soon…
