It all comes down to money

So about 6 months ago, I was promoted to a new positron to start and grow a new division in my company. Even though the pay increase was not spectacular, it was okay. I felt like I could show what I could do and work on that in a few months. I hit the ground running and do what I consider to be a great job. Several other locations (roughly a dozen) have started the same division, and I've been number one or two in production since I started. Added a second member to my team and doubled production. So about 6 months ago, I was promoted to a new positron to start and grow a new division in my company. Even though the pay increase was not spectacular, it was okay. I felt like I could show what I could do and work on that in a few months.

I hit the ground running and do what I consider to be a great job. Several other locations (roughly a dozen) have started the same division, and I've been number one or two in production since I started. Added a second member to my team and doubled production. All is well until October.

The first member of my team puts in notice. Lower and middle management make him an offer (without telling me) to stay which he refuses. He leaves.

I've gotten to know the guy so we stay in touch. A week ago he mentions he might be willing to come back. I check with management, they agree I can offer him a raise to get him back. I call him and make him the same offer they made him before he left.

I felt foolish to say the least. We talk, I get him to agree to come back for an amount above the offer. Has to be taken to management. Middle manager has to talk to upper. Upper calls him direct, and decides not even to make a counter offer.

So now, I have a 100k piece of equipment still sitting making zero revenue that I'm expected to generate enough money to cover the payments on. And my division, which I was promoted to manage and grow, is having to turn away thousands of dollars a day. All because of ~1500 a month they felt was too much and they “didn't like that he had left and was using it as leverage to get more money”.

I'm so frustrated. I was ready to add a third person to my division. The equipment is already on order. And I'm now losing money and clients I spent the last 6 months developing because I can't service them properly. All over less than 2k a month.

Oh, and to top it all off, my yearly review and raise was due October 1st. I still haven't gotten it.
