I went to my night job last night and clocked in at 10pm. I got off late at 6:15am and drove to my day job.
I was happily trucking along and counting the minutes until I could close my little office, turn in my paperwork and go home at noon. My day boss calls and tells me another clerk at a nearby office has to go home sick and I need to go work that office until it closes at 2:30. Okay, day just got a little longer. But I’ll be home by 3:15 and don’t have to leave for my night job until 9:30 so I can get a good 4-5 hours sleep and a shower and some food. So I can make this work. Just no getting homework done today, I’ll work on it tomorrow I guess.
About 2 I get a call on my cell from my night boss. Apparently the assistant manager just called in. None of the other supervisors are answering their phone and there isn’t enough staff to cover the shift before mine. So my glorified-cashier butt needs to be in by 7 and I’ll get off at 6am like normal.
So I’m now going to get off from my day job at 2:30. Get home at 3:15 (after being working since 10pm last night) and will need to leave for my night job at 6:30, to get off at 6 and then go work my day job until noon. Guess I’m not sleeping either.
I should be happy I have time to get out of my uniforms and shower and eat in my own home before I go back to work I guess? I’m so tired of having to live to work rather then work to live. I’m not lazy, I drive a modest car and live in an average home with a roommate. But due to a car wreck that left me with excessive medical debt 5 years ago, and paying my way through school I have to live like this. It’s ridiculous. Thank you for letting me rant.
