Interviewer wanted to interview my spouse and look at my budget

I interviewed at a job and the interview went well. I could tell they were hurting for employees There were a few odd questions like if I’m a Christian and go to church. They wanted to see if I was “walking with god” I played along because I need a job badly The interviewer told me the next steps was to show them a budget based off my pay and to interview my spouse. Ironically, the interviewer told me his favorite book was called “boundaries”. Is this even legal?
