The amount of ass kissing…

So basically, I do software, and I’m thrown into a project with almost zero context. For those of you who don’t do software, imagine something as tedious as inspecting a wooden table for every single tiny scratch and fixing it without messing up anything else because one fault can mean an entire system failure. Anyways, we do a production rollout, which has the highest impact on clients as production is the product we deliver.

We spend almost 16 hours straight (after months of preparing) to roll it out and do it almost flawlessly.

We had one slight hiccup and our director asks this guy (who created the problem to begin with) to join momentarily as he left to another team months earlier. He contributes an idea that doesn’t work and we end up going a new direction and fixing the issue ourselves.

The next day, our director posts a public praise for the guy who helped us momentarily saying how he sacrificed his precious time to help us as if we had no clue, even though he contributed basically nothing and only stayed for an hour.

We got no recognition, no congratulations or announcements, no anything. Just silence.

Just goes to show, there’s no fairness in any company and you should just do the absolute minimum.

I have no jealously as I have to say, the other guy is wickedly smart and I respect him, it’s just the principle behind it. At least congratulate us for fixing and inheriting a giant mess and miraculously getting it out and working. I know I should expect it, but it sucks.
