I have been at my current Michigan public school for two years and have seen some super shady shit go down. I am not a teacher, but paraprofessional/secretary unit. Our Union is an absolute joke, which is why I am posting here.
Any time I work over my 29.75 hours, which is often, the district refuses to pay and instead I have to take comp time. Comp time doesn’t pay for my childcare cost. And comp time is straight time: I work an hour, I get an hour of comp. There was another secretary who had over 100 hours of comp time, left the district and the district refused to pay her when she did.
I’m hourly paid and believe that I am non-exempt employee, who under federal guidelines, can not be forced to take comp time, instead should be getting paid time and half.
Do I have a case with HR?
