This email is about a holiday event happening after work hours on Thursday. It says “optional” in the invite, but my boss is making it mandatory that everyone on the team goes. Not to mention that the place I have to drive to is 40 minutes away from where I live and doesn't start until 7:45 at night and goes until 10. There is also the fact that I leave for vacation the following night and was planning to finish up packing and relax after work, but god forbid I use that as an excuse to not go.
The CEO's kids are not forced to go (they're in their 30's and work for the company), but yet for everyone else on the team it is mandatory. Also, there's already a holiday party happening DURING WORK HOURS the next day, this just an extra holiday party someone decided to have and my boss deemed it so important that we all go.
Let's stop making corporate after work events you're not paid to go to mandatory.
