My bf got food poisoning & he's in rough shape. I messaged my boss to tell her what was going on and let her know I would be in late. (I have 4hrs of pto/sick time left but I also have vacation days scheduled this month that I could cancel to gain hours) My shift starts at 7am and I wanted to be able to get him settled before I went in. I figured I could be there between 10-11 and then could come check on him on my breaks. I work 12.5hr shifts so I we get longer breaks & we live less than 10 minutes away. She replied that if she couldn't get support from another line she couldn't support that b/c only one other tech is coming in for our line. Here's the kicker. I'm on restricted duty b/c I hurt my back from being strained at work due to the terrible staffing shortage. We have less than 50% retention and 30% turnover currently at my site. So I'm not sure how they are expecting to run other than throwing contractors on the line and having us shut down for breaks. I don't even know how to reply so I just left it. I don't think she can do anything since I let her know what was happening.
