Please don’t contribute to making overwork the standard

I work at a big (2k+ people) EU tech company and my manager isn't happy with me. Wanna know why? Because I said that I won't do unpaid overtime. We were approaching a deadline and a lot of work had to be done so everyone in the team, except me, sheepishly said yes. I just put in extra effort to make sure everything is done as it should be. I overdelivered, did more than the rest of my team, all during my paid hours. But that didn't matter, I'm not a 'team player' and it's not 'fair to others'. When all is said and done, my manager is satisfied with my teammates and dissatisfied with me although I actually technically contributed more to the company's bottom line. What do I get? Looks like I won't be considered for promotions or raises, great. I hate that overwork is now the norm…

I hate that overwork is now the norm and 'going above and beyond' is normal.
I hate that I'm expected to do more than I'm paid for if I want to get a promotion/raise or even an 'attaboy'.

Please don't contribute to this mentality, it's extremely toxic, let them know that they get what they pay for. Let them know that compensation isn't a 'reward', it's the cost of your labor.
