Massive pay discrepancy & I’m frustrated.

Tl;dr – newer coworker hired in at 40% more than what I was making after 2 years with company. I got rehired in 2020 by a company I’d left in 2017. I left mostly because it was a daily 90 minute commute & the position I started in kind of morphed into a customer service/support role & I am NOT that person. But they hired back for the position I originally wanted. And with Covid it was work from home. 6 months later our small-staffed company was purchased by a very large national one. My company is a software provider in the healthcare industry. They also provide billing (home health & the like) and payroll services. I started back doing billing.

In January of this year a coworker who did PR services was switching positions. There were only 2 PR employees. I’d had prior experience so I was asked if I could help until they hired someone. I said yes with the expectation it would be relatively temporary.

I was hired in 2020 at 18/hr. The new owners gave everyone a 2% raise at the beginning of 2021. When my 1-year review was done no raise came with it.

So as year 2 came around I was at $18.36. (~38k/yr)

Then the job posting came out. The salary range for the position I was doing, on top of continuing helping the billing dept, was 45-55k.

I was mad. I spoke to my direct supervisor & my 2 other bosses. I asked that when my next review was done that my pay would reflect my value. I couldn’t imagine anyone taking the job at less than the low range.

I got a 10% raise (42k). Nice, yes. But I’d truly expected more. Whatever.

Last month I finally asked the new hire how much she was making.

$53,000. I am livid.

We now have a new boss & my supervisor wants me to take on more billing duties & completely stop doing PR (which I hate). So I am expecting a giant leap in pay this coming spring, but I plan on being vocal about this INSANE discrepancy.
