… I've worked retail for a long time. Half my life in fact. I've seen all manner of shit go down. Then covid happened and no one was prepared for the absolute shit storm that ensued. Customers in the beginning were appreciative and patient. Now they're more bitter and resentful than they've ever been. It doesn't matter that supply lines haven't recovered at all and I still can't get product. I should have ordered more.
But I digress. I had a meeting with my store manager, whom I've know for a long time. He speaks honestly and candidly with me. I finally told him I'm done. After almost 16 years, I have finally had enough. My last day, regardless of future employment status, 12/29 is my last day. I'm sitting at home, crying. The nightmare is over. I got out. This place became something I defined myself by. It was a part of my personality. But I quit. By the time New Years is upon us, I will no longer be employed by this company. And I'm crying literal tears of joy. This is a day that I thought would never come and it doesn't feel real. I'm scared but hopeful for the next chapter of my life. Let's finally close this off.
