School forced teachers to be unpaid baby sitters

My wife and I both work for a private school in FL. The other day the school had a “Parents Night Out”. Basically parents were allowed to sign up to drop off their kids at 5:30 so they could go on a date unti 8:30. They were also allowed to drop off their other kids who are not students at the school. I’m in upper school so I do not have to do it but my wife is in lower school and had to. We were even more frustrated because our parents were in a Christmas parade we were going to go to. My wife had only two kids and her co teachers were cool just to watch them for her so she could go to the parade but her head of school told her if she didn’t show up she would be docked half a days pay.

WHAT? Your telling me if my wife doesn’t show up for this after school BABY SITTING job that doesn’t pay her anything your going to dock a half days pay away even tho she worked A FULL DAY?

I’m livid. Is that even legal? I mean we have no contracted hours and we are salary so with it being a private school maybe they can just make up the hours they want and count those extra 3 hours as part of her work day but even if that was correct she still worked more then half a day.
